DICT Simplifies Gov’t Processes, Services Thru GovCloud

In pursuant to Executive No. 47 or the implementation of the iGovPhil Project, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT)-10 introduces the Government Cloud (GovCloud) on June 19, in Cagayan de Oro City to make the government more efficient, transparent and accountable.

With the GovCLoud, government agencies are able to share resources—which can be allocated when needed as needed—through a high-speed network connection. This reduces hardware acquisition and maintenance costs for the government, essentially creating an “economies of scale” for computing,” DICT Acting Director Evamay C . Dela Rosa said.

As for the operating systems supported by GovCloud, Dela Rosa said that it supports all types of 32-bit and 64-bit OS whether Windows or Linux.

Moreover, the internet connectivity will be provided along with the Fiber-to-the-Building (FTTB) deployment to agencies.

GovCloud offers a secure private cloud infrastructure and guaranteed service level that align with customer requirements. Such enables government agencies to use secure online applications for various computing requirements.

Aside from security, GovCloud also allows easy upscaling or downscaling of ICT resources as and when required, to accommodate increased or changing demand or capacity.

The virtualization also enables the provision of cloud resources whenever and wherever, making access to resources faster and more convenient. This on-demand access to a shared pool of storage and compute resources can also be quickly and easily configured, provisioned and managed even without third party review or approval.

To get started with the GovCloud, government agencies will just have to send an e-mail of intent at govcloudsupport@i.gov.ph(RTP/PIA10)
