An official of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) disclosed recently that DFA is mulling over the prospect of establishing more consular offices in provinces and major cities nationwide.

DFA Assistant Secretary Frank R. Cimafranca, who attended the inauguration of the mall-based DFA Consular Office in Tacloban on April 21, emphasized that establishing DFA consular offices in provinces and major cities in the country will provide comfort, convenience, and accessibility to Filipinos processing their passports and availing other services offered by DFA.

Cimafranca added that the establishment of consular offices in the country is in line with Executive Order 45 signed by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

“DFA is also eyeing nine consular offices in 2019,” Cimafranca said.

Floramie Adolfo Vega, senior regional operations manager of Robinsons Land Corporation in Cebu and Eastern Visayas, said that DFA and Robinsons Land Corporation signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on October 2011 for the establishment of the newly-established DFA Tacloban.

Vega further said that the establishment of DFA Consular offices in Robinsons malls in the country is a public-private partnership (PPP) between DFA and Robinsons Land Corporation.

She reported that the DFA Consular Office Tacloban is the 12th consular office out of the 14 DFA consular offices under a PPP of DFA and Robinsons Land Corporation. (JNPD/RSV/PIA 8)
