‘Detour’ Showcased Aloguinsan’s River Cruise as The Most Sustainable Tourist Destination
Aloguinsan’s river cruise was presented as the best model for Cebu’s sustainable tourism to stakeholders during the recent Detour (Development+Environment+Tourism) tourism council summit.
Provincial Tourism Officer Joselito Costas, in a discussion before the LGU and private tourism stakeholders, presented videos showing Cebu’s primary tourist destinations that include the attractions of southern and western towns.
Costas said that for tourism to thrive, it must have a good community-based tourism program and the three (3) Ps: People, Planet and Prosperity.
Last year, the Cebu Investments and Promotions Office (CIPO) rolled out training programs to LGUs and nature-based tourism industries in the province in an effort to develop community-based ecotourism.
The participants were provided with trainings on zoning and site planning, visitor management, wildlife protection, marketing and business promotions, disaster risk and reduction management and revenue generation.
Moreover, Costas added that all tourist destinations will face different life cycles ranging from ‘developing’ to ‘degradation’.
“You have to start from somewhere; your destination should pass a tourist destination life cycle,” Costas said. (Francis Torralba)
