The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) recently ended the search for the Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya Pilipino Program Cebu Provincial level.

It is an annual search for the DSWD thru Pantawid Pamilya Pilipino Program (4Ps) to acknowledge and give honor to the fortunate chosen families who became an epitome of kindness to their community.

In the province of Cebu, only the best of three (3) inspiring stories stand out among the fifteen (15) entries submitted for the 2017 search for Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya. These stories come from the municipalities of Moalboal, Tuburan and Tabogon.

This year, Mr. Amancio and Mrs. Remegia Saac and family of Barangay Lanao, Moalboal got the first place as the Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya Pilipino Program (4Ps) in the Province of Cebu.

Amancio Saac, 49 years old, head of the family, is a farmer and at the same time a Barangay Councilor since 2007. Meanwhile, Remegia Saac, 45, is a seamstress. The couple has eight (8) children: Reynan Saac, 26, Marissa Saac, 24, Remmel Saac, 22, Maricor Saac, 21, Marian & Meriam Saac (twins), 20, Margie Saac, 17 and Mercy Saac, 16.

The family became one of the recipients to the DSWD 4Ps since 2012, and became part of the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) for 3 years already. The diligence has paid off. The Saac’s now own kinds of animals for livelihood like Carabaos, Cows, Goats and Sows, fruit-bearing trees like Banana and Coconut trees and sari-sari store as their sources of income.

“Wala gyud namo damha nga kami gyud ang ma-first. Dako kaayo namo’ng pasalamat sa Ginoo nga nakuha ni namo’ng award tungod sa among pagpaningkamut pinaagi sa maayo’ng buhat” (We did not expect to be the winner. Our great thanksgiving to the Lord because we got this award thru our efforts and good deeds) said, Remegia Saac.

Two of the Saac children already graduated from college. Remmel Saac finished Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) at the Cebu Technological University (CTU) Moalboal and Maricor Saac finished Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) at the University of the Visayas (UV) Toledo.

On the other hand, Ethel P. Jayme and Family of Brgy. Daanlungsod, Tuburan got the 2nd place, and Junipher and Haide Garcia and Family of Brgy. San Isidro, Tabogon got the 3rd place in the Cebu Provincial level.

Ethel Jayme, 42, widow, has 5 children. Her eldest daughter, Marah Mae Jayme is already a LET passer, September 2016. Meanwhile, the Garcia couple also has 5 children and two of them already graduated from college. Amiel Garcia and Theresse Garcia graduated from the Cebu Technological University (CTU) Main Campus with the degree Bachelor of Science in Education (BSED) major in Technology and Livelihood Education (T.L.E) and Bachelor of Science in Education (BSED) major in Math, respectively.

The five judges of the provincial search were from partner CSOs. Ma. Angelina N. Patindol from People Power Volunteers for Reform (PPVR), Jefferson B. Encabo and Rowena Tigue from Jesus Christ, Rock of Refuge, Ernest Christian P. Montoyo from Church of Christ and Laudemir L. Olis from National Auxiliary Chaplaincy Philippines Inc. (NacPhil).

The Cebu province Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya Pilipino Program 1st placer will compete the Bohol and Siquijor provinces for the regional search. The regional winner will automatically represent Central Visayas to the national level competition.
