DepEd Official Defends Termination
A Department of Education-Talisay City Division superintendent defended the termination of 62 Teacher Aid Volunteers (TAV), saying they were excess already.
“Sobra og teachers ma-question pud ta sa COA kung ipadayun,” said DepEd-Talisay City Division Superintendent Woodrow Denuyo.
Denyuo explained that before the termination of 62 TAVs, the ratio of a teacher to students was “1: below 45” when the required ratio is 1:45 or 1:60 in some schools. With the excess, he said some TAVs had less workloads, some only giving two hours per day, which becomes questionable.
For his part, city administrator John Eyre said they want to arrive a win-win solution for the 62 teachers affected by the termination, hence they called them in a meeting on Thursday.
It was on Sept. 27, when the city government terminated the contract of more than 60 TAVs. Authority said these teachers were hired before the end of the former administration making them part of the ‘midnight appointment.’
On Thursday, the teachers stormed the city hall building asking explanation from city officials why the outright termination when the contract provides at least one-week notice.
