DepEd Offers More Than Just Online Learning Through SLMs

As the school year 2020-2021 is fast approaching, the Department of Education (DepEd) is now preparing to offer a more efficient way of learning for students.

With the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic still present, actual face-to-face classes are still prohibited to observe social distancing and other health protocols. Thus, the Self-Learning Modules (SLMs), with the alternative learning delivery modalities will guarantee all learners to have access to basic but quality education for the coming school year.

Part of the said modalities are modular, television-based, radio-based instruction, blended, and online.

Schools that are located in far-flung provinces, coastal areas, and communities without electricity and internet access are the main priority of the SLMs.

SLMs will be delivered in printed formats to the mentioned locations.

“The SLMs and the other alternative learning delivery modalities are in place to address the needs, situations, and resources of each and every learner and will cover all the bases in ensuring that basic education will be accessible amid the present crisis posed by COVID-19,” said DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones.

Video lessons will also be integrated through SLMs especially for K to 3 learners who require more auditory learning than other grade levels.

SLMs will be printed this month of July and will be prepared for distribution across the country. (MLC)
