The long wait for the Department of Education (DepEd) Cebu Province is almost over as the Cebu Provincial Government sets the date for the formal donation of the requested Sudlon lot in Lahug, Cebu City.

Dr. Arden Monisit, DepEd division superintendent, revealed that Governor Hilario P. Davide III eyed February 6, 2015 to hold the memorandum of agreement (MOA) signing of the deed of donation.

“Kung ma-donate na ni, dako gyud kaayo ang tabang ani sa DepEd kay since time immemorial wala man gyud mi opisina (If this donation succeeds, this would be a great help to DepEd because we never had our own office since time immemorial),” Monisit said.

He added that for the first time, they will have a “permanent office, a permanent home.”

DepEd Cebu Province has been occupying the 6,148-square-meter lot for about eight years now and has plans on renovating their current headquarters. The successful donation also would allow this plan to be realized.

Monisit said that once donated, DepEd Cebu would now be responsible in the repair, rehabilitation and maintenance of the building.

“This will be the counterpart of DepEd,” he added.

Monisit announced this development after attending the Provincial School Board’s (PSB) January 19 meeting headed by Davide. The PSB approved the P147-million proposed budget for 2015.

This includes Capitol’s P39 million-counterpart to the Gabaldon restoration and high school building construction partnership projects of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc.

Monisit shared that the MOA signing for this project will take place on February 6 as the governor is trying to secure the presence of DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro for this event.

Also included in the budget are the P5-million budget to support Cebu Province’s hosting of the 2015 Central Visayas Regional Athletics Association (CVRAA) meet on February 22 in Balamban town and P4.8 million to support the provincial delegates.

Monisit urged the public to always pray for better weather to ensure the success of the CVRAA meet.
