DepEd 7 Still Hiring Teachers, Building Classrooms for Grade 11 Studes
Classes in public elementary and high schools, including senior school (SHS) opened Monday, but the Department of Education (DepEd) 7 said they are still hiring teachers and finishing construction of new classrooms for Grade 11.
Dr. Tomas Pastor, Department of Education (DepEd) 7 Senior High School coordinator, said not all of the 2,262 new SHS teacher positions allocated for the 13 divisions in Central Visayas have been filled up.
Dr. Rhea Mar Angtud, DepEd Cebu provincial schools superintendent, said out of 1,038 classrooms that were to be constructed within public schools under the Cebu Provincial Schools Division, only 371 have been completed.
But Angtud assured the remaining 639 classrooms will be completed within this month.
She said some senior and junior high school students would have to share classrooms, working in shifts.
Cebu Province has 12,677 available classrooms, with 3,813 dedicated to high school students.
Angtud said that of the 2,262 new teacher positions allocated by DepEd 7 for senior high, about 789 are for Cebu Province.
But she said not all slots for Cebu Province have been filled as of Monday.
The Cebu Provincial Schools Division is composed of public schools in all the towns in the province, excluding component and highly urbanized cities such as Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, Cebu, Talisay, Naga, Toledo, Carcar, Danao and Bogo.
These cities have their separate school divisions. (PNA) FFC/EB/EBP
