DepEd 7 Still Assessing Ruby’s Effect on Schools
The Department of Education (DepEd)7 has continued evaluating on the after -effect of typhoon Ruby against school facilities in Central Visayas.
DepEd7 Regional Director Carmelita Dulangon on Tuesday revealed she is still waiting to receive all reports from the four provinces of region 7 especially in areas lashed out by the typhoon.
Dulangon said she was aware that in Central Visayas, the northern part of Cebu province was battered much by the powerful winds of Ruby.
“So i’ll have to wait the reports from school principals and supervisors assigned in the islands of Camotes, Bantayan Islands, and some municipalities in the northern mainland of Cebu province where mild damages on school buildings were recorded,” Dulangon said.
The DepEd regional chief said she cannot make a total evaluation on the total amount of damages unless she could have a clearer picture on the actual devastation brought about by the typhoon.
“What I initially knew was the verbal reports about the alleged disappearance of some steel rooftops in some school buildings in Camotes Islands and Bantayan Islands,” Dulangon said.
She said that after receiving the factual reports of damages on school facilities, she may refer this problem to the local government units (LGUs) and to the central office of DepEd in Manila.
All the four provinces in Central Visayas were holding classes starting Tuesday after evacuees was ordred to go back to their respective homes.
During the wake of typhoon Ruby, some of the DepEd buildings were utilized as evacuation centers for resident, especially those from living near the shoreline flood-prone areas.
Dulangon also was grateful to all governors, city and municipal mayors, and barangay captains, including their respective legislators and risk reduction groups who led their constituents to stay either in school or covered court buildings, during the typhoon.
“This is so far a good move to minimize human casualties”, Dulangon said.
