DENR Halts Quarry Operations After Landslide

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) halts all quarry operations in Regions I, III, IV-CALABARZON, V, VII, X, XI, XIII on September 21, 2018.

After the landslide that happened in Naga City on September 20, DENR Mines and Geosciences Bureau ordered to suspend all quarry operations in the said regions to assess the safety of residents that lived near quarry sites.

The landslide in Tina-an, Naga City, Cebu was thought to be caused by the quarrying operations of APO Cement Corporation in the area, which APO Cement Corporation denied.

The landslide happened at around 5 A.M., has killed more than 30 people and injured dozens. Different Local Government Units (LGU) within Cebu came to help in the search and retrieval operations and gave donations to victims.

The incident as of September 21, 2018 has displaced 287 families and 785 individuals, and are now evacuated to the Enan Chiong Activity Center (ECAC), Naalad Elementary School, and Apo Center. (Aljun S. Cainghog)
