DENR 7 Urges the Public to Minimize Carbon Footprint
Following the rise of carbon emission all over the world, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-7 (DENR) earlier today urged the public to minimize their “carbon footprint.”
In a statement, DENR-7 said the country’s carbon footprint is equal to 0.8 metric tons per capita or 0.3 of one percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. Isabelo R. Montejo, regional executive director of DENR 7, said “if there’s anything that we need to do very seriously and urgently is to reduce our individual carbon footprint. The DENR’s call came a day after the world celebrated the international Earth Day with a theme “Earth day: Everyday, Everywhere for Everyone”.
Meanwhile,Eddie Llamedo, DENR-7 information officer, in today’s Kapihan sa PIA forum, said open dumpsites emit methane, another serious environmental concern. Methane is produced by the rotting of garbage in dumpsites. It is 21 times more lethal than carbon dioxide, he explained.
