DENR 7 Announces Winners in First Ever Statistical Quiz Bowl

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) 7 announced the winners of the first ever statistical quiz bowl contest held Tuesday in celebration of the 26th National Statistics month held at the DENR 7 New Conference Hall, Sudlon, Lahug, Cebu City.

On first place was Rafael J. Olodin, Land Management Inspector of Community Environment and Natural Resources (CENR) Office-Cebu City; on second place was Planning Officer II Cristina Manlangit of CENRO Ayungon, Negros Oriental; and on third place was Forest Technician I Marianito Abregana of CENRO Argao, Cebu.

The participants of the first ever DENR 7 Regional Statistical Quiz are representatives from the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), DENR 7 Technical Services and personnel from all provincial and community environment and natural resources offices in Central Visayas.

The winners received PHP5,000, PHP3,000, PHP2,000 for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd prize winners, respectively.

DENR 7 Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services Wilfredo Lee and Chief Administrative Officer Trinidad Etulle awarded the certificates of recognition and cash prizes.

The topics of the quiz were biodiversity, mining, environment, forestry, lands, statistics and other environmental current events.

DENR 7 Regional Director Dr. Isabelo R. Montejo said the activity was in support to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), the lead in the celebration of the National Statistics Month.

“We take part in promoting, enhancing and spreading awareness and appreciation of the importance of statistics to the different sectors of the society through participating in various inter-agency statistical advocacy initiatives and conducting activities that highlights its value,” said Montejo.

This year’s theme for the 26th National Statistics Month is “Pagyamanin at Gamitin and Estadistika, Kalusugan para sa Lahat ay Abot-Kamay Na.”

The National Statistics Month (NSM) was first observed in 1990 pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 647 signed by then President Corazon C. Aquino on September 20, 1990, declaring the Month of October of Every Year as the National Statistics Month. (PNA) LAP/EB/PR/EDS
