DENR 7 Allots P80M for Seedling Facility
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) 7 has allocated P80 million for a mechanized seedling nursery facility in
region 7.
DENR-7 regional executive director Dr. Isabelo Montejo said this is the first and the largest seedling nursery in the country which will be
placed in a 9.3-hectare lot in Barangay Banban, Negros Oriental in October. There are four nurseries scattered all over the country which
produce quality seedlings to be distributed in various areas.
“The facility uses series of equipment for bagging, seeding, hardening and other related activities,” said Montejo. He explained that the
country needs such kind of nursery due to the increasing demand for seedlings to be used in tree-planting programs.
This new nursery is said to produce at least 15 million seedlings every six months or at least 40 million seedlings in a year.
