Delivery Firm Donates Test Kits to Cebu City
Express delivery firm J&T Express Philippines donated test kits and other medical essentials to the local government of Cebu City to help in the battle against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
10,000 Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved rapid test kits and 200,000 surgical masks were turned over to Cebu City Mayor Edgar Labella.
Despite the online backlash that the firm has received on social media for videos showing staff greatly mishandling packages, J&T Express is among the fastest-growing delivery service in the country and Southeast Asia region since their startup in 2015. They also donated rice and clothing supplies to displaced families in Batangas during the Taal Volcano crisis along with World Vision for the children in Baseco, Manila.
Their donation in Cebu City was said to be the largest rapid kit donation by a private company since the start of the pandemic.
Meanwhile, two days before the Inter Agency Task Force (IATF) announces the latest quarantine status for different provinces on July 15, Cebu City still remains to be a COVID-19 hotspot, while the National Capital Region (NCR) is still considered to be the epicenter of the said disease in the Philippines.
According to the Department of Health (DOH) as of yesterday, July 12, Cebu City has a total of 7,439 confirmed cases, of which 3,292 are active, 3,788 total recoveries, and 359 total deaths. (MLC)
