Death Toll at 241 in Central Italy Earthquake

Rome — The death toll from the magnitude 6.2 earthquake in central Italy stands at 241 people, not the previously reported 247, the Civil Protection Department clarified Thursday.

The earthquake struck the mountainous regions of Umbria, Lazio and Marche in the early hours of Wednesday, causing extensive damage and scores of aftershocks.

“At the moment, the death toll in the earthquake is not 247, but 241,” spokeswoman Immacolata Postiglione said. (PNA/Sputnik) RMA/RSM
