Davide Welcomes Plantation from Mindanao
Amid talks that the major plantations from Mindanao are moving to Cebu despite the calamities, Gov. Hilario Davide III said he welcomes them as it means income for the people.
“We welcome that. It’s good for us, apart from it can generate employment for our constituents, it can also be economically advantageous for us,” Davide said.
Davide admitted that Dole Philippines, which operates a vast pineapple plantations in Mindanao, has expressed willingness to have a plantation somewhere in Cebu.
Earlier, a Dutch-based chocolate company had talked with Davide and Capitol representatives of their interest to set up a cacao plantation where seeds will be used for its chocolates to be distributed worldwide.
Davide said the province has vast agricultural lands which can be ideal areas for plantations.
“Despite calamities that visted us, Cebu is still a place desired by businesses,” Davide said.
