Davide Welcomes Mayors’ Support Against Illegal Drugs
Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III has started it at the Capitol and said he is happy now that local mayors are joining the random drug tests in their areas.
“I’m glad the mayors are responding on our campaign to fight against drugs specially in government workplaces,” said Davide.
The governor said the mayors should be guided by what he does at the Capitol showing no mercy to government workers who are found to be positive of illegal drugs use, adding that government workers should serve as role models to the public against illegal drugs.
The governor launched last March the random drug tests at the Provincial Capitol wherein a number of workers were found to be positive of illegal drug use. Some of them were already dismissed while the others, specially the regular, are given time to contest the results.
Daanbantayan town Mayor Augusto Corro is among those who wants to do the same in his town hall. In his recent visit at the Capitol, he said the drug test will not only rid his government of drug users, it will also send signals to those who are using it and would stop right away before they compromise their jobs.
Earlier, City of Naga Mayor Valdemar Chiong said he also supports this call and is even willing to submit himself to the same test.
Early this year, Talisay City Mayor Johnny V. de los Reyes also launched the same drug test to City Hall workers including those in the field. A handful few had already been caught and dismissed from their jobs.
