Davide Visits Landslide Site, Mobilizes Capitol Units to Help in Rescue Ops
Cebu Gov. Hilario P. Davide III immediately ordered the Provincial Engineering Office (PEO) to dispatch heavy equipment to the landslide area in Barangay Tinaan, City of Naga, Cebu a few hours after the tragedy happened past 5 a.m. yesterday.
Rescue teams from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) also responded to the site to help other rescue volunteers in the search and rescue operations.
Davide, who immediately went to the site and met with Naga City Mayor Kristine Vanessa Chiong, also tasked the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) to provide food packs and other essentials to the survivors, while the Provincial Health Office (PHO) to assist in the medical needs.
Engr. Jesus Arcenal, chief of the Cebu Provincial Motorpool, said that there are two backhoe diggers, two dump trucks, a loader and a self-loader were dispatched to SitioSindulan in Barangay Tinaan yesterday.
More heavy equipment are readily available for dispatch whenever it is needed, he said.
Social welfare assistant Myra Tancingco said that the Capitol sent foods and other basic commodities to the survivors hours after the tragedy occurred.
At 11 a.m., Thursday, Capitol distributed 100 mats and 100 blankets to the more than 1,000 evacuees sheltered at the EnanChiong Activity Center (ECAC).
At least 600 bottled water, 200 pieces of five-kilo pack rice and 200 eco-pack (ready to eat) canned goods were also sent to Naga last Thursday afternoon.
By 6 p.m., Capitol sent 17 boxes of powdered milk that contained 72 packs inside and 17 boxes of noodles, filled with 72 packs in each box. At 11 p.m., 500 more blankets, 200 sleeping and 200 mosquito nets were delivered to Naga.
Earlier today, Capitol sent 600 pieces of soft roll breads for the survivors.
The governor reiterated his assurance to Mayor Chiong that the Capitol is always ready to provide any assistance to Naga, particularly to the evacuees or survivors, who are now sheltered in the evacuation centers in Barangay Naalad, Apo Cement Complex, CentralCepoc Elementary School, ECAC, and Sindulan chapel.
City of Naga Councilor Carmelino Cruz, who also serves as the city disaster head, said that there are a total of 314 families living in the affected Barangays Tinaan, Naalad, Pangdan, Mainit and Kabungahan.
