The Cebu Provincial Board of Canvassers (PBOC) proclaimed Cebu reelectionist Gov. Hilario Davide III on Saturday night as the winner in the province’s gubernatorial race.

Davide garnered a total of 616,381 votes over his closest rival, lawyer Winston Garcia, who got 593,725 votes, giving the former a margin of 22,656 votes.

The proclamation was made after results from the special election for 300 voters in clustered precinct 33 in Barangay Gabi, Cordova were transmitted to the Cebu Capitol.

Only 336 out of 772 voters in that precinct managed to vote last May 9, after misprinted ballots were sent to Barangay Gabi.

The 336 waited more than 10 hours before they could vote, using the leftover ballots in the other precincts as the ones sent to precinct 33 had the names of candidates in Dalaguete town in southern Cebu.

Also proclaimed Saturday night were Cebu Provincial BoardMembers-elect Glen Bercede and Thadeo Jovito Ouano, who will represent the sixth district, where Cordova belongs.

Bercede earned 104,216 votes and Ouano, 103,932.

Cebu second district Rep. Willy Caminero was proclaimed in his absence, with lawyer Jodie Castillo receiving the proclamation papers on his behalf.

Cordova’s Mayor-elect Mary Therese Sitoy-Cho of the Liberal Party garnered 16,755 votes, defeating her half-brother, Cebu Provincial Board Member Arleigh Jay Sitoy of PDP-Laban, who got 5,115 votes.

Outgoing Mayor Adelino Sitoy, Cho’s father, won as the new vice mayor with 15,704 votes, defeating Dody Jumao-as of PDP-Laban who got 4,727 votes.

The winning councilors are Victor Tago III (13,415 votes), Allan Tiro (12,225), Cesario Muñez (11,473), Jose Wahing (11,243), Cesar Suan (10,746), Lemuel Pogoy (10,612), Teodorico Casquejo Jr. (9,592) and Angeles Gairanod (9,273). *(PNA) SCS/EB/PJN*
