Davide: Police Should be One Step Ahead Against Drug Peddlers

The policemen should be “one step ahead” in its all out campaign against illegal drugs.

Governor Hilario P. Davide said this amid the killing of two police officers in a drug raid conducted last November 14.

He reiterated to the media that they were not disheartened with the recent shootout in Moalboal and Capitol’s campaign against illegal drugs continues.

“Ang atong message jud ani is padayon lang gyud mo (The message here is you just go on), be aggressive as well and our police authorities kinihanglang (should be) one step ahead against drug peddlers,” he said.

Asked what he would recommend for those underperforming police officers, Davide said he would leave the matter to the local chief executives.

He added that the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) has also a plan of action for the underperforming personnel.

On November 17, the governor commended CPPO for their successful simultaneous operations in the mountain barangays of Dalaguete, Alcoy and Boljoon in October. Recovered in the raids were packs of shabu, bundles of marijuana, firearms, grenades, and Php 15,000 cash.

Meanwhile, the governor welcomed the suggestion of hiring another consultant for the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC).

The suggestion came from the Provincial Board Member Grecilda “Gigi” Sanchez, who pointed out the lack of concrete program to solve the drug problem in the facility.

Davide said they have already discussed with the CPPO and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency on the possible actions against the existence of drugs inside the CPDRC.

He also stated that he is still to appoint a full-fledged jail warden at the CPDRC. Acting Jail Warden Romeo Manansala, who the governor believed as the most senior among the guards there, is not qualified to apply for the post since he is not a college graduate.
