In the wake of the 40-hour fire that gutted Metro Ayala, Governor Hilario P. Davide III has ordered for the inspection of all Capitol-owned facilities and buildings, including in the towns and cities of Cebu province.

“I asked Engr. (Hector) Jamora to check on the Capitol and Legislative buildings, especially stock rooms and bodegas and its electrical wirings,” said Davide, in a media press briefing last Monday.

He told reporters that he already asked the Provincial Engineer to also check district and provincial hospitals and Capitol-owned facilities in towns and cities.

Renewal of all business permits is set this month, and one of the requirements for granting the permit is the fire safety inspection by the Bureau of Fire Protection.

Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) head Baltazar Tribunalo Jr., in a separate interview, said they will follow-up the inspection of schools, hospitals and municipal buildings.

“We need to refresh their knowledge on how to use fire extinguishers and check their electrical wirings,” said Tribunalo.

The governor hopes LGU officials will also focus their attention on the safety of their facilities.
