Cebu Gov. Hilario P. Davide III led the opening of the road concreting project in various upland villages in Medellin town, north Cebu last May 22.

The project, with a total cost of P10 million, is part of the 6-Key Agenda of Davide’s administration under the countryside development and infrastructure.

“Karon natubag na gyud ang usa namo ka hangyo (One of our requests is finally granted),” said 40-year-old Maria Lourdez Alcoriza of Purok Camanchile, Barangay Antipolo who witnessed the ceremonial ribbon-cutting of the concreted road in her barangay.

Antipolo is located in the town’s upland areas.

Eight separate road stretches, totaling 1.941 kilometers, were also opened by Davide and other local officials in Barangays Lamintak Sur, Lamintak Norte, Luy-a, Antipolo, Maharuhay, Kawit, Mahawak and Curba.

“Kining dan usa ka timaan sa kalambuan (This road is a symbol of development),” Davide told residents who attended the ceremony.

Davide added that the residents are now reaping the fruits of the Provincial Government’s partnership with the local government officials headed by Mayor Joven Mondigo Jr.

Mondigo had served as a member of the Provincial Board (PB) representing Cebu’s fourth district where Medellin belongs, before he became the town mayor.

“Ang pagpangalagad walay gipili, kauban ba o dili (Public service knows no boundaries, whether you’re an ally or not),” said Davide.

Mondigo, a partymate of Davide, described the governor as a good-natured leader that welcomes everyone regardless of their political affiliation.

Mondigo, who was among those who attended the activity, said that these “sugar roads” that cut through sugarcane fields served as the access way of hauling trucks to the sugar mills.

After the ceremony, Alcoriza, took the opportunity to make another request to the local officials. She hopes to have an efficient water system for their community.

She said that the community already has a water pipe, courtesy of the Provincial Government, but it remained unused for a year now as this needs to be connected to a water source.

Mondigo assured Alcoriza and the rest of the residents that he will send a technical team within the week to assess possible water sources in the area. He said that the barangay could either connect the pipes to the water system in the neighboring Barangay Maharuhay or extract water from an existing well in the community.
