Davide, Magpale Dazzle Senior Citizens In Alcantara
Seeing Gov. Hilario Davide III and Vice. Gov. Agnes Magpale in flesh has impressed 63 years old Adelaida Ando of Barangay Candabong, Alcantara town.
For Ando, the visit of top Capitol officials to their mountain barangay demonstrates how the provincial government values the senior citizens.
“Maayo sila kay makig himamat gyud sa personal,” Ando said. (They’re good because they would meet us in persons.)
At least 1,415 senior citizens in nine barangays of Alcantara town received a gift pack from the Cebu Provincial Government during the Halad Alang Kang Lolo ug Lola last Saturday (Feb. 13).
“We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our senior citizens who are looked upon by our children as the guiding light of the family,” Davide said in Cebuano.
Davide said the provincial government has recognized their invaluable contribution to society especially in the formation of family values.
In return, the provincial government has provided them with social programs, including health care services. It also plans to include cash incentives.
A 65-year-old farmer, Ignacio Tagod of Barangay Cabadiangan, said he was grateful for the gift pack because he knew that it was heartily given.
The governor and vice governor joined town officials led by Mayor Beatriz Caburnay and Vice Mayor Fritz Lastimoso in their visit to different barangays, including those in the remote areas.
Provincial Board member Peter John Calderon and Badian town Vice Mayor Jerome Librando were also present in the distribution activity.
During her speech, Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale cracked jokes to the delight of her audience in Barangay Candabong.
The vice governor assured that the Halad program which started in 2013 would continue under Davide’s administration.
All nine barangays namely Cabadiangan, Lawaan, Candabong, Gabil-isan, Manga, Salagmaya, Polo, Palanas and Poblacion received gift packs from the Capitol.
