Davide “Graduates” from PLGP, Shares Cebu’s Best Practice
Cebu Governor Hilario P. Davide III recently completed an 18-month Provincial Leadership and Governance Program (PLGP), a governor-led journey on health governance rooted in Bridging Leadership that aims at improving health outcomes for the rural poor, in a symposium held at AIM Center, Makati City on September 25, 2018 organized and funded by the Zuellig Family Foundation and the Department of Health.
During the symposium, Governor Davide shared his experience as he grappled with Cebu’s problems on health services and a dysfunctional structure when he assumed office, and how he learned to pivot and empower the provincial government and its stakeholders to restructure and strengthen an inclusive and focused district health system that ensures efficient access and effective services to every Cebuano, especially the poor.
The best-practice symposium was attended by Ambassador and ZFF Chair Roberto Romulo, former DOH Secretaries Manuel Dayrit, Esperanza Cabral and Enrique Ona Jr., media and health practitioners, and by nine other provincial governors who were selected nationwide as champions for improved health governance who have undergone series of training, practicum, coaching, and peer learning activities. Davide was joined by his core provincial team that includes DOH 7 Jaime Bernadas, PHO head Dr. Rene Catan, DOH-7 Dr. Socorro Entera and Engr. Miguel Gerson, and Capitol Consultant Rodrigo C. Lachica Jr. (CEBU PROVINVIAL GOV’T)
