Davide Commends Coop Summit Delegates for Poverty Alleviation Initiatives
Cebu Gov. Hilario P. Davide III and first lady Jobel Angan-Davide welcomed delegates of the 2nd Asia Pacific Cooperative Youth Summit during a dinner hosted by the Cebu Provincial Government held at the Capitol Social Hall last Aug. 20.
“The hard work and dedication you put in your mission of enabling communities and alleviating people from poverty is commendable,” Davide told 150 young cooperators/delegates from 16 different countries in Asia Pacific who shared the dinner with local cooperative officers in the Visayas, Mindanao and Luzon. “At such a young age, you have created sustainable enterprises that have generated jobs and built livelihoods.”
The foreign delegates were entertained by the local youth performers from various towns with their song and dance presentations showcasing the Province of Cebu
Balu Iyer, the regional director of International Cooperative Alliance (ICA), thanked the governor and the summit sponsors.
One of the highlights of the activity was the awarding of the Best Cooperative Pitch Project Proposal to Singapore delegate Ng Jun Long.
During the first cooperative youth summit in September 2016, Justine Limocon of the Lamac Multi-Purpose Cooperative (LMPC) won the best cooperative pitch project proposal.
The summit activities included tours to Cebu’s scenic spots and live-in training at Hidden Valley Mountain Resort in Pinamungajan, Cebu which is run by LMPC.
The summit, which was held on Aug. 18 to 21, was sponsored by International Cooperative Alliance and European Union, with the help of LMPC.
“Seeing you all tonight also inspired us to empower and engage more Cebuano youth to also start worthwhile initiatives that will further develop our communities here in Cebu Province,” said Davide said in his welcome address.
Uplifting the lives of the marginalized, through cooperatives, is one of the Six-Key Development Agenda of the Davide-Magpale administration, through their countryside development initiatives.
Last November 2017, Davide led the groundbreaking ceremony of the “Bahay Kooperatiba,” a proposed three-storey building that will soon house the Cebu Province Association of Accredited Cooperatives (CPAAC) .
The Cebu Provincial Government has been supporting CPAAC and its members by providing assistance to them.
The other development agenda of the Davide-Magpale administration are health and social services; education and technical vocational training; environmental protection, climate change and disaster risk management; infrastructure development, tourism and investment promotion; and law and order.
