Davide Appeals for Fair Fare Hike
● LTFRB will hear today CITRASCO’s petition that seeks for an increase in jeepney fare from P7.50 to P10.
Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III on Monday appealed to the Land Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) 7 to arrive at a compromised figure in the scheduled hearing over the proposal to increase jeepney fare.
The LTFRB will conduct a hearing Tuesday over the petition of Cebu Integrated Transport Service Cooperative (CITRASCO) that seeks to increase the minimum PUJ fare in the whole region.
CITRASCO proposes a P10-minimum fare for the first four kilometers.
“Tingali ang P2.50 is a bit high for our commuters. Naa lang unta’y compromised figure sa fare para di pud kaayo sakit sa bulsa sa mga commuters,” said the governor.
“These are hard times. We also have to consider the plight of commuters. They have to shell out additional P2.50,” he added.
However, Davide said he also understands the situation of the PUJ drivers who suffer the unstable price of fuel.
“We also have to consider sab ang sitwasyon sa mga jeepney drivers, nagkamahal pud ang gasoline. As far sa prices of the gasoline is
concerned, wa tay control ana, agad ra ta sa World Market,” Davide said.
“There has to be a balance. I hope they can meet halfway,” he added.
