Dance Society Echoes Confab on Philippine Folk Dances in Tangub

Tangub City, Misamis Occidental (PIA) — The Philippine Folk Dance Society, Tangub City Chapter, has conducted the 11th Echo Seminar-Workshop on Philippine Folk Dances, at the Tangub City National High School, here, on July 17-19, 2015.

Held in coordination with the local government unit, Sinanduloy Cultural Troupe and the Department of Education, Division of Tangub City (DepEd-Tangub), the seminar aimed to equip and update teachers, dance trainers and choreographers on the fundamentals of Philippine Folk Dances.

“It was also aimed to upgrade their knowledge, skills and understanding in teaching folk dances to supplement the K to 12 Program and provide teachers with resource materials, such as, workshop kits, compact disks, among others, Victoria V. Gazo, Ph. D., Schools Division Superintendent, said.

Participants of this seminar workshop were Grade 5 to Grade 8 Music, Arts, Physical Education and Health (MAPEH) teachers, choreographers and dance enthusiasts from public and private elementary and secondary schools of the division, Gazo said.

Meanwhile, among the topics taken-up during the workshop were the fundamentals of street dancing and “Pinoy” aerobics, as well, as a review of the folk dance “Rigodon de Honor.”

Also reviewed were the following folk dances with their origin: “Pihataiiato Cu Tafutu Cao,” from Cagayan, “Ba-Ingles” and “Man-Manok” from Ilocos Sur, “Putritos” from Quezon, “Pastorcillo” from Cebu, “Pad-um” and “Salidsid,” from Antique, “Jota Paloana” from Leyte, and “Saad” from Capiz.
