Daanbantayan Mayor Tests Positive for COVID-19
Daanbantayan Mayor Sun Shimura confirmed through his official statement posted in the “Municipality of Daanbantayan” Facebook page that he has tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
According to Shimura’s statement, on June 18 he had a fever and cough and consulted a doctor right away.
On June 20, he underwent swab testing and the result was released yesterday (June 21) stating that he tested positive of the said disease.
Prior to the swab testing, the mayor also underwent rapid testing on June 15 but tested negative.
On June 16 he went to his house on Mandaue City to attend the Cebu Province’s meeting along with Governor Gwen Garcia on June 17.
The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) decided to suspend all operations in the town’s municipal hall today except for the offices of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management (MDRRM) and Rural Health Unit (RHU) for the disinfection of the whole building. The Mayor’s office, however, will suspend all their transactions for one week.
Shimura is now under quarantine.
“Kini samtang ako gipaubos sa quarantine ug treatment pinasubay sa mando sa akong doctor. Akong ipasalig nga kining panghitabo kasamtangan lamang ug kita molampos niini,” Shimura said in his statement.
Shimura is the 2nd Mayor in Cebu who tested positive for COVID-19 after Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan also tested positive on the said disease. (MLC)
