Cresida Tueres, the Woman Behind PH’s Famous Pizza, Greenwich
Who doesn’t love Pizza? Who doesn’t want to smell and taste the goodness of that Italian dish? Although it originated in Italy, pizza is now famous in all parts of the globe.
In the Philippines, we cannot deny the fact that western culture has greatly influenced our lives, from technology, clothing, food, and many more. That is why we love pizza more than anybody else.
There is one pizza and pasta chain restaurant originating in the Philippines which all of us know–Greenwich.
Just like any business, it started small and ordinary. In 1971, Mrs. Creside Tueres started a small over-the-counter pizza shop in Greenhills Commercial Center.
Mrs. Tueres isn’t a newbie when it comes to food, cooking is in fact her passion and she has a natural talent for entrepreneurship.
When her small pizza store began operating, people, especially her friends and relatives loved it for its delicious taste and very affordable price.
By the constant support of her friends, relatives and customers, Greenwich started to engage in franchising and by 1994 Greenwich expanded rapidly that it easily reached 50 branches.
Meanwhile, Jollibee Foods Corporation’s Tony Tan Caktiong saw a great potential and eventually they made a deal, acquiring 80% of Greenwich’s shareholding. Their partnership also started in 1994.
After the successful business deal, the new company became Greenwich Pizza Corporation and in 1994 it opened its first store in Ever Gotesco Commonwealth Shopping Mall. Greenwich’s logo went through a lot of innovation, from its all green logo before to its two vibrant colors of vivid rose and brilliant green today.
Due to Greenwich’s successful business ideas and hardwork, Jollibee Foods Corporation offered them a P6M to P10M franchise package including equipment, franchise fee, furniture, advertising, construction and maintenance of the store.
In 1995, new packaging designs were released to the public, one of those is the Greenwich Special Pizza with 7 toppings.
Through the years of success and giving Filipinos quality Pizza and Pasta, Greenwich now has over 300 stores nationwide. (MLC)
