About 1,600 students from the Sisters of Mary School (SMS) – Boys Town partake in Cebu Provincial Sports Commission’s (CPSC) summer sports training Sunday with training highlights on personality development.

CPSC Executive Director Ramil Abing said that aside from honing their skills, participants in the summer training will also learn the ethos of sports activity with consideration for fairness, ethics, respect and sense of fellowship with one’s competitor.

SMS Boys and Girls Towns were established in the Philippines in 1985. It served as schools and homes for deserving students coming from the poorest of the poor families.

“Competing is not enough. We aim for your personality development as an athlete, enhance your skills and develop more quality athletes to represent the province,” said Abing.

CPSC’s summer clinic, part of Capitol’s province-wide grassroots program for various sports, aims to scout potential athletes who will be trained by multi-awarded athletes and coaches from Cebu Province sports team.

With a whopping P8 million budget for technical and logistical support, the Cebu Province finished an overall second place in this year’s Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVRAA) with a total of a 37-41-47 medal tally.

Trainings for basketball, volleyball, badminton, swimming, table tennis, football and athletics are among the highlights of CPSC’s grassroots program, which help the province in fielding 850 athletes in the recently-concluded CVRAA.

Lilybeth Gustilo, SMS-Boys Town principal, expressed her gratitude to Governor Hilario P. Davide III and the entire CPSC staff during her welcome address.

“We are very thankful for Governor Davide in initiating this program to develop our youth in molding them into better athletes,” said Gustilo.

She said starting March until August 2017, their students will spend their weekends with sports training and development.
