CPDRRMC Warns Drivers to Take Extra Cares
The Cebu Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CPDRRMC) this morning issued warning to all motorists in Cebu province to be extra careful while driving their vehicles as downpour continues brought about by a tropical depression ‘Mario’.
Baltazar Tirbunalo Jr. CPDRRMC Chief issued the warning especially to drivers who are travelling to the south particularly between the Cities of Naga and Carcar where century old trees are surrounded at the national highway.
According to Tribunalo too much rainfall could soften the soil and may trigger even old acacia trees to fall down.
Tribunalo also said that aside from the danger of trees, drivers should also be careful when passing in the land slide prone areas because soil erosion are common to dump-up on the road.
The PDRRMC chief said road conditions are slippery due to flooding so it is just incumbent for drivers to take extra precautions to avoid vehicular accidents.
Earlier this morning, Cebu governor Hilario Davide III ordered to suspend classes on all levels of schools from elementary to the tertiary as a standard precaution when weather disturbance occurred for the students’ safety.
The same move was adopted by Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama who personally witnessed the over flooding on mostly urban areas within the city, making almost all streets in the low lying places were submerged by floods.
Stranded vehicles as well as passengers were openly seen in the different areas of the city waiting until roads were cleared.
