“COVID-19” Official Name For Novel Coronavirus Says WHO
World Health Organization (WHO) replaced the temporary name “nCoV-2019” to its official name “COVID-19” or Coronavirus Disease on February 12, 2020.
“co” means corona, “vi” means virus, “d” means disease and “19” for which year it was first discovered.
WHO said that the official name will apply to all kinds of cases from mild to severe.
The official name was announced to avoid referring the virus to a place, people, or animals.
Coronavirus Disease or COVID-19 has been first observed in Wuhan, China and had already affected over 40,000 people worldwide. (ASC)
