Court Found SPO1 Dumpit Guilty; PRO7 to Respect Decision

The Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Tuesday morning said they all respect the rule of law regarding the conviction of SP01 Adonis Dumpit.

Police Sr. Supt. Edward E. Carranza Regional Chief Directorial Staff of PRO7 said while the court decision was discouraging but”we have nothing to do but to vow to its judgement”, he said.

PSSupt Carranza was representing on behalf of Regional Director PCSupt. Prudencio Tom T. Bañas of the PRO7 during the 76th Talakayan sa Isyung Police (TSIP) Forum this morning at the PRO 7 Headquarters along Osmeña Blvd. Cebu City.

He said he is aware that some of their colleagues are discouraged over the development but still the court decision must prevail.

Carranza admired Dumpit being a sharp shooter and became a shooting mentor to some of the Cebu City Police Office officials and personnel.

“I’m aware how some policemen felt when the court finally handed its decision against Dumpit, but it is only up to there, because the most important is to continue the good work that we have started in maintaining the peace and order in our respective areas of assignments,” he said.

However, he said that the decision is not yet final because Dumpit is still given a chance to file its appeal to the court of appeals.

On the part of PSupt Henry Biñas, Deputy Chief of Regional Intelligence Division, he categorically emphasized that based on the standard operating procedure, any government official or employee who is convicted of any crime, must also be automatically discharged from the service.

“But that is only in my own opinion”, he said adding that he doesn’t know if that will follow on Dumpit’s case.

Dumpit, who was criminally charged for shooting to death a robbery suspect, was detained at the Cebu City Jail for 10 years until his verdict was finally decided by the court this morning.

The criminal charges were filed by Janeth Badana, mother of Ron-ron Go, a robbery suspect who was shot dead by Dumpit in 2004 somewhere in Cebu City.
