In a resolution authored by Cebu City Councilor Roberto Cabarrubias, city-owned vehicles not properly marked would be denied their regular fuel allocation.

Councilor Cabarrubias stated during the council resolution Wednesday that a number of city-owned vehicles no longer bear the city’s official seal and the “For Official Use Only” sign.

Due to the rampant reports that city-owned vehicles have been used for personal purposes, the members of the city council is requiring both signs to be present in city-owned vehicles before they can have their fuel allocation.

Councilor Mary Ann Delos Santos added that the persons of whom the vehicles have been issued should be accountable to their actions.

The councilor pointed that according to Sec. 375 of R.A No. 7610, otherwise known as the Local Government Code of 1991 “each department head or office of the City shall be primarily accountable for all government property assigned or issued to his department or office. The person or persons entrusted with the possession or custody of government property under the accountability of any head of department of office shall be accountable to such officer.”

“There is a need to properly account and monitor all vehicles of the City especially when fuelling up in the City’s designated depot and avoid danger of using City’s vehicles for non-public use.” Councilor delos Santos added. (Ann Margaret Ylanan – UV Masscom Intern)
