Council Wants Lighthouse in Lauis Ledge

The Talisay City Council during its regular session today approved a resolution asking the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) through Department Budget and Management (DBM) secretary Butch Abad to build a lighthouse structure in Lauis Ledge, Barangay Tangke.

The resolution came after the Aug. 16 incident wherein cargo ship Sulpicio Express 7 collided with MV St. Thomas Aquinas resulting in the death of more than 100 passengers. Councilor Antonio Bacaltos, proponent of the said resolution, said the lighthouse would guide the passing marine vessels as they pass in this nautical highway near their city.

“Having a lighthouse within the territorial boundaries of the City will be a deterrent for an occurrence of sea accidents in the territorial waters of the city,” read a portion of the resolution.
