Cordova Mayor Takes Pride in Bakasi

Cordova Municipal Mayor Teche Sitoy Cho takes pride in their popular dish called Bakasi.

“Pride gyud ni namo, I’m proud of that delicacy,” said Mayor Cho. Bakasi is a local dish made from little moray eel.

Mayor Cho said that Bakasi is one of their pride in Cordova and tourists from all around Cebu travel to town just to taste the extraordinary dish.

“Ang amoang Bakasi anhian mang gyud bisan layo. They know our Bakasi very well, mu ingon gyud sila nga lahi ang taste sa amoang Bakasi,” said Cho.

Cho said that there a lot of Bakasi restaurants in Cordova and most of them are located at the coastal areas.

The Municipality of Cordova also celebrates “Dinagat Festival” or “Bakasi Festival” every 15th of August in honor of Sr. San Roque.

Meanwhile, after the episode of the Netflix TV series “Street Food” aired, where it features local Cebuano dishes including Bakasi, more people, even foreigners got interested and visited their town to taste Bakasi and received a lot of positive feedback from tourists.

Cho also expressed her happiness knowing that a local dish will be featured in such a popular TV series. (MLC)
