Cops Nab Suspect in Ambush-slay of Cebu Town Mayor’s Bodyguard
Police arrested a man believed to be one of the suspects in the ambush and killing of a bodyguard of Tuburan Mayor Democrito Diamante Wednesday afternoon in a hot pursuit operation Thursday dawn.
Police identified the suspect as Luduvico Oroquero, who was arrested in Barangay Montealegre, Tuburan town.
Police recovered from him several firearms and ammunition, including one unit of Carbine rifle, one shotgun, one caliber .45 pistol, assorted magazines and ammunition.
Oroquero was tagged in the killing of Rene Cangmaong, a former New People’s Army member, and bodyguard of Diamante.
The victim was reportedly going to Barangay Gaang to deliver a letter to a local leader about a political gathering when the ambush happened Wednesday afternoon, May 4.
The hot pursuit operation was conducted at around 3 a.m. Thursday by joint elements of the Regional Special Operation Group-Regional Intelligence Division 7, Cebu Provincial Intelligence Branch, Cebu Provincial Police Office and Tuburan Police Station.
Tuburan is on an election watch list areas (Ewas) along with San Francisco, Dumanjug, San Fernando, Medellin, Daanbantayan, Carmen and Bogo City. (PNA) RMA/EB/EDS
