Consolacion Ready for Centennial Celebration
Dubbed as “Consolacion Yesterday, Today and Beyond: Fulfilling Dreams, Building Legacies”, the northern town of Consolacion is ready for their 100 years celebration on February 6, 2020.
Consolacion Mayor Joannes Alegado said that it was such a challenge for them to organize a rare event since it only happens every 100 years. The mayor revealed that everything is ready for the centennial celebration.
“This is a very rare occasion, talagsaon ra nga mag centennial celebration ang usa ka lugar and we are very blessed that we are one of those,” Mayor Alegado said.
The week long activity (from February 1-6), in preparation for the centennial celebration will feature different activities and shows for the people of Consolacion to enjoy. Various activities include Sarok Grand Parade, Centennial Job Fair, Centennial Culinary Festival and Centennial Expo Trade Fair, Drum and Bugle Corps Competition, Sarok Making, Sarok Painting, Sarok Designing and Sarok Decoration Contest, Sarok Ball and Fashion Show, Dalagang Bukid or Zarzuel Play, Visual Arts Exhibit, Mr. and Ms. Centennial, Battle of the Bands, Sarok Street Dancing and Sarok Ritual Showdown Competition.
For the ritual showdown competition, the grand winner will receive P100,000, 2nd placer (P75,000), 3rd placer (P50,000) and 4th placer (P30,000).
“Gi activate nato atong cultural commission in order to remind nga kita tinuoray nga Pilipino ug lumad nga taga Consolacion,” said Vice Mayor Teresa Alegado.
Meanwhile, Police Major Verniño Noserale, Consolacion Police Station Chief of Police said that their force is ready to implement security measures all throughout the celebration.
SWAT teams will be deployed and the police station also requested for force multipliers.
It was known that in February 6, 1920, through a certain executive order, the town of Consolacion became the 51st municipality in the province of Cebu. Consolacion was formerly a “barrio” or a neighborhood of Mandaue. (MLC)
