Consolacion Cancels Sarok Festival
The town of Consolacion canceled all activities in line with its centennial celebration due to the 2019 novel coronavirus Acute Respiratory Disease (2019-nCoV ARD) scare.
On February 5, Mayor Joannes Alegado called for an emergency meeting to discuss the cancellation.
“Nipahayag si Secretary Duque (Francisco Duque) that they will certainly be advising the suspension of any public events so ang kani atong sarok festival, this is a public affair nga atong na predict nga mu gather ug thousands of people. Kana nga advisory gikan sa Department of Health ato ng gipaminaw,” Mayor Alegado said.
Recently, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) released Memorandum Circular No. 2020-18 which is basically a “guide to action against coronavirus”.
Following DILG’s directive, Mayor Alegado also issued Executive Order No. 38, Series of 2020 directing all barangay in the town to cancel all gatherings of people, organize their own barangay emergency response team and to conduct information dissemination campaign against coronavirus.
Mayor Alegado said that their town is willing to wait until the virus subsides before they can continue with any activity.
Meanwhile, the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) gathering has also postponed due to the continuous threat of the coronavirus. The order came from the Department of Education Central Visayas (DepEd)-7.
There is still no timeline on the said postponement. (MLC)
