Cebu 2nd congressional District Representative Wilfredo Caminero has decided to have his oath-taking at Barangay Linut-od, a farflung mountain barangay of Argao, some 60 kilometers southeast from Cebu City, as a way to tell the farmers that he is approachable to them.

Caminero who used to be mayor of Argao and also member of the Cebu Provincial Board before he decided to run as a lawmaker in the last May 13 elections, said he hopes that his story that he was once a farmer who rose to become congressman, would also inspire people.

The neophyte lawmaker said he is planning to file a bill that would divide the second congressional district because its territorial jurisdiction composed of 15 towns is so huge.

Each of the lawmakers has a P70-million allocation for their Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) commonly known as pork barrel. Caminero said if the district is so wide each towns can only avail a little amount of their PDAF.

It was Caminero who defeated reelectionist and veteran legislator Pablo “Pabling” Garcia, father of then Cebu governor and now 3rd District Rep. Gwendolyn Garcia.

Caminero said the unused PDAF of his predecessor that is deposited as trust fund in the Capitol would be spent by him for the benefits of his constituents in the district.
