Congressman Proposes ‘Regional Senator’
Cebu’s Fifth district Rep. Benhur Salimbangon said if he had his way, he wants the election of Senators to be “regionnwide” so that each region is represented.
“Mas maayo gyud unta kung regionwide na ang election sa senador para kada region naay representate,” Salimbangon said Tuesday on 888 Forum at the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel.
Salimbangon said there are 24 senators presently and most of them are from Luzon area, only a few are from Mindanao and the Visayas. With this setup, problems from other areas are usually not heard in the Senate. He said it is about time that the Congress pass a law giving each region in the country a senator.
The congressman, however, did not say if he would pass a bill with such intention.
