Comelec Sets Special Voting Center for Seniors, PWDs
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is set to create a special voting center in every polling place nationwide for senior citizens and persons with disability (PWD) this coming 2016 presidential elections.
Cebu Provincial Election Supervisor Lionel Marco Castillano on Wednesday revealed this plan during the Kapihan sa PIA at the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) office along Gorordo Ave. Cebu City.
According to Castillanom, this proposal was made following their observation on the difficulties of PWD and seniors on any activities especially during elections.
However, he said concerned PWD or seniors have to fill-up the “Supplementary Data” form available at any Comelec office to determine they are PWDs and seniors who need a special voting center.
Castillano said that they will also see to it that this special voting center will be placed at the ground floor on any polling areas. He said that this is for easy access to them and avoid stress and pressure and to maintain their peaceful election participation.
Meanwhile, Castillano said the regional Comelec office has registered a total of 175 PWD qualified voters last July 20, a special registration day set for all disabled in Central Visayas.
The highest number of registrants among the four provinces in region 7 was Cebu with 139, followed by Negros Oriental, 30, and 3 each for Bohol and Siquijor.
Castillano however said that their offices are open during Saturdays, Sundays and even during holidays to entertain all qualified registrants.
