The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) is set to launch a satellite registration system to all barangays in Central Visayas starting next month.

This is the assurance made by Provincial Election Supervisor Atty. Lionel Marco Castillano this morning saying “this satellite registration system will do away the practice of some politicians who gather all voters and bring them free to the Comelec office”, he said.

Castillano added that every politician could have a different ways of political campaign to win the people’s vote and offering free ride to the Comelec office for registration is an easy gimmick.

“This is the idea of all politicians showing to the voters their good intention without knowing that it is already a part of “politicising,” Castillano said.

Bringing the Comelec closer to the people is another point raised by Castillano on why they must exert their own efforts to let all voters in the rural areas to register themselves in their area of jurisdiction.

He said that Comelec people should stay at the barangay hall and let all the barangay officials call their constituents who are already qualified to vote but not yet registered due to lack of time.

Castillano said that they will bring with them their registration equipments such as computer machines and date capturing machines.

The provincial election supervisor said they adopted the utilization of data capturing machine to control the massive proliferation of flying voters.

“Now that we already utilize the data capturing machine, its easy to detect anybody who try to vote many times they want during election day”, Castillano said.

According to Castillano financial problem is one of the most common reasons or alibis, made by some registrants why they failed to show up to the Comelec office for registration.

Castillano reiterated that their offices in Cebu City and other parts of the region are open even on Saturdays and Sundays and all holidays to accept new voter registrants.
