COMELEC Gives Smartmatic-TIM Go Signal to Refurbish 97K VCMs
Smartmatic-Total Information Management 2016 Inc. (SMMT-TIM 2016 Inc.) will now refurbish 97,145 vote counting machines (VCMs) for the upcoming 2022 national and local elections as the The Commission on Elections (Comelec) gave the firm the go signal.
Comelec published the Notice to Proceed on their website on June 25 where the electoral poll body approved over PHP637.4 million for the “refurbishment with consumables” of the VCMs.
The VCMs to be refurbished were used in the 2019 mid-term elections.
Comelec Chairman Sheriff Abas signed the refurbishment contract that includes 250,000 pieces of cleaning sheets, 109,745 pieces of secure digital (SD) cards, 109,745 pieces of worm SD cards (for back-up).
SMMT-TIM 2016 Inc. was declared by comelec as the sole bidder for the supply and delivery of VCMs external batteries last week.
SMMT-TIM 2016 Inc. submitted a proposal to the Special Bids and Awards Committee of the Comelec for the PHP162.13 million supply contract. (GFB)
