Color Fun Run Opens Drug Abuse Prevention Week

The Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Office (CPADAO) on Sunday opened the week-long ‘Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week’ with a five-kilometer run starting from the Capitol.

In her opening message, CPADAO head Carmen Remedios Durano-Meca told participants the importance of physical fitness in fighting the menace of illegal drugs.

“Gikinahanglan nato ang baskog ug piskay nga panglawas para masustiner natu ang ka agresibo sa pagsumpo aning illegal nga drugas,” she said.

The celebration, maintained to sustain anti-illegal drugs campaign, opened up with the enforcement of drug abuse-related programs for the youth that includes project S.E.E.K, a school based education campaign against drug abuse, and project YMAD (Youth Making a Difference).

Durano-Meca said the awarding ceremony of the Sugbo Kontra Droga (SUKOD), which will be held on November 23, is this year’s highlighted activity.

On November 22, CPADAO will also hold the Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Alliance Summit in partnership with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Department of Justice (DOJ) and Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO).

CPPO Director PSSupt Eric Noble led 475 individuals in the fun run starting from the Capitol up to JY Square in Lahug.
Police Community Relations staff Jaimee Quiocho and PO2 Marivic Mari won the race in the Male and Female categories respectively, followed by James Casinillo of AkoBogoy Youth Organization from Bogo City and Genevive Pantollano of Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines – Medellin Chapter.

Youth sector all over Cebu province participated in the fun run along with DepED, Capitol employees, PDEA, LGUs from Madridejos, Pilar, Danao, Mandaue and San Francisco, Camotes, and Narcotics Anonymous, a non-government organization.

About 26 surrenderers also joined the fun run. (Chad Bacolod)
