Colon Night Market to Resume Operations
To bring back the old glory of the country’s oldest street, the Colon Street, the city government here led by Mayor Michael Lopez Rama through its Downtown Revitalization Project will once again hold a Night Market which will resume its operations on November 15, 2015 Sunday.
Colon Night Market is a program of Mayor Rama which he started way back his stint as the city’s Vice Mayor in 2007 right after the Association of South East Asian Nation (ASEAN) summit held in this city. It aims to bring back the old glory of the oldest street in the country which was the center of trade, commerce and industry decades ago and to revitalize the city’s downtown area.
It also serves like a Divisoria in Manila which cater the needs of the different people from different walks of life to enjoy buying low priced items from kitchen utensils, household needs, garments, school supplies, finger and street foods, among several others.
The mayor wants to ensure the safety and security of everyone who will partake in the event, thus Police visibility will also be seemingly observable in coordination with the city’s Unified Security Group and intelligence network to patrol along the area and will be on prowl on bad elements.
The nightly operation will start at 6:30 in the evening wherein the Night Market traders are allowed to display and sell various items and products up until 2 o’clock dawn. At least a hundred of traders that will join in the activity.
The third night market operation this year is in line with the Christmas celebration. Christmas day this year is coming 44 days from now.
Moreover, the Colon Night Market is conducted four times yearly. It is held every month of January as part of the Sinulog celebration, every middle of the month of May to the month of June as part of the Opening of the Classes and Cebu Business Month, every month of August in time of Ramadan and every middle of November until December for the Christmas celebration.
