Coastal Clean-up to mark Coral Triangle Day Celebration
Coastal clean-ups and other environment-related activities will be the highlights in next month’s international celebration of Coral Triangle (CT) Day in Cebu.
The event is celebrated every June 9 to raise awareness on the importance of marine conservation, especially the Coral Triangle area, which spans countries like Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Malaysia, Solomon Islands, Timor Leste and the Philippines. CT is a six-million square-kilometer ocean wherein various marine species are found, and from which millions of people including Filipinos depend upon. The reefs here are where thousands of dolphins, whales, marine turtles, among many others.
Environmental problems are, however, besetting this marine ecosystem, thus the CT day, an annual event, aimed at empowering individuals to take action in protecting and conserving the marine environment, specifically the CT area.
