City’s Elderly Receive P3K
Cebu City PIO – At least ninety percent of the close to sixty thousand qualified Senior Citizens from this city’s eighty villages were surprised and happy as they received their P3,000 financial assistance Wednesday morning, January 28.
The Cebu City Government has only announced that only the remaining P2,000 as the last tranche of cash aid for the year 2014 will be distributed yesterday but the Senior Citizens were surprised as the city has also given the P1,000 as the first tranche of their cash aid for the year 2015.
Cebu City Mayor Michael L Rama has ordered that the P1,000 will be distributed and it was not revealed to the public but only yesterday. The Mayor whose heart is close to the elderly has likewise ordered to give chance to the elderly who failed to claim their cash aid distributed in December last year to also claim it yesterday.
Lola Gloria Cortez, 71, a native of Barangay San Roque has shared to the BARUGG News that, “Nalipay ug nagpasalamat gyod mi ni Mayor Rama kay iyang gihatagan ug dakong pagtagad ang mga katigulangan, sama nako nga naa nakoy magamit dugang palit sa akong medisina.”
Meanwhile, Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) new head Domingo Chavez, Jr. has pointed out that the distribution went well with the smooth flow of the activity and no major problems encountered.
Chavez who officially started working in his new position last January 5 this year likewise encouraged his fellow elderly who were not able to claim their cash aid yesterday to claim it on January 29 Thursday (today) at the Plaza Sugbo fronting Cebu City Hall, adding that the city will give 15 working days for them to claim it at the Cash Disbursement Division of the City Treasurer’s Office located at the 3rd floor of Executive Building in Cebu City Hall.
As the new OSCA head, Chavez reiterated that he will continue the flagship projects in their office and to strengthen the structures of the Senior Citzens Organizations in the 80 villages of this city, to push for the “Botika alang kang Lolo ug Lola” and to realize the elderly’s transaction passbook for transparency and accountability.
Furthermore, the great success of yesterday’s distribution which were simultaneously conducted in the respective Barangay Hall, Sports Complex and other convenient designated places in all villages was made possible by the city’s 21 Departments in coordination with the Cebu City Police Office, Barangay Officials, Workers and Volunteers, among others.
