City to Promote Cebuano Film Industry
A chance for a film industry in Cebu to grow up is big, once the Cebu City government will approve an ordinance creating the Cebuano Cinema Development Commission (CCDC).
Marlon Hofer, Cebu City information officer, said that a city ordinance to this effect is ready for approval by the city council.
“Deliberations about its annual budget is also underway and once the proponent could justify it, there is no reason why the council members fail to approve it,” Hofer said.
He also said Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama is also interested to support the promotion of the Cebuano film industry.
Hofer was also one of the invited guests during the Tapok-Tapok sa Media at the Cebu Business Hotel on Friday last week.
He said once the ordinance is approved, they will start hiring film producers and local showbiz personalities for the Cebuano film industry to start rolling.
The CCDC will serve as an overseer on all activities related to filming all selected Cebuano stories.
Hofer said the number of films to be produced each year will depend upon the amount of budget the Cebu City local government unit (LGU) will provide to CCDC.
Cebu has all the capacity to produce decent films due to the presence of Cebuano talented film personalities, he added.
According to Hofer, this is also one way of promoting Cebuano actors and actresses once the Cebuano film industry fully develops.
Cebuano story writers are also hopeful, they could have a big chance to share their ideas to all film producers in the country through the CCDC.
