City to Commemorate ‘Day of Valor’
(Cebu City PIO) — To honor our heroes and heroines who contributed extreme efforts for the liberation and freedom of our country, the city government here will commemorate the 73rd Philippine Day of Valor on April 9, 2015 Thursday.
A Holy Eucharistic Mass will be offered to kick off the activity also known as “Araw ng Kagitingan” which will be held at the Veterans Shrine in the city’s historical Plaza Independencia.
The program proper which will be highlighted by the Floral Offering Ceremony at the Veterans Monument in Plaza Independencia will follow right after the Mass.
Looking back, the ‘Day of Valor’ commemorates the greatness and heroism of the Filipinos during World War II who fought for our independence during dawn time on April 9, 1942 when the Japanese occupied the Philippines.
Furthermore, the celebration will be observed as a national public holiday throughout the country. The event here will be spearheaded by the Cebu City Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission. Everyone is encouraged to partake in the historical activity. (Cebu City Public Information Office PIO/Greggy Jiggs P. Senados)
